A guide to our Smoothtex agents

What do you use to smooth your silicone joint? Many will use dishwashing liquid with water, window cleaner or denatured alcohol to assist in smoothing silicone.

Some will even lick their finger and use it to smooth the silicone, which is commonly known as the fastest and grossest way to have mold grow in your caulk.

It’s always best to use a product that helps you achieve that professional finish.

That’s why after filling every joint, we recommend using our specialised Maxisil Smoothtex to help you achieve a professional finish, quick and easy. It also stops silicone from sticking to areas outside of the joint area, a solution for tilers converting from an acrylic caulk to Silicone.

Which Smoothtex should be used?

Maxisil offers two types of Smoothtex that have been specifically formulated to work with their respective silicones.

Smoothtex A can be applied to any wet area and pool applications, compatible with Maxisil Wet Area and Pool silicones. It is not suitable for use on stone, marble or granite substrates.

Smoothtex N is specially formulated for natural stone surfaces, including marble, and granite substrates, and is best used with our Natural Stone silicone.

Both Smoothing agents are excellent products enabling that professional finish. They also help increase workability on long silicone beads, making them easy to use on any job.

How to use Smoothtex

Smoothtex is best used prior to shaping the joint, as this ensures ideal workability without affecting fresh, unskinned silicone and assists in achieving the perfect finish.

1. Dilute Smoothtex A: Use two parts Smoothtex and one part water in a clean spray bottle. Smoothtex N is used undiluted.
2. Apply a light spray: Spray Smoothtex onto the silicone bead.
3. Use an applicator: Work the Maxisil silicone bead into the desired shape.
4. Remove any excess: Wipe excess Smoothtex with a clean cloth.
